Manchester United player Nemanja Matic sends message to Novak Djokovic after tennis star deported from Australia

Manchester United player Nemanja Matic has delivered a supportive message to deported tennis star and Serbian compatriot Novak Djokovic.

Amid a stunning 10-day saga that has been publicised across the planet, the 20-time Grand Slam winner has now been ordered to leave Australia after losing an appeal to stay in the country.

Djokovic had been hoping to defend his Australian Open title. However, the unvaccinated Serbian has, ultimately, had his visa cancelled on 'health and good order' grounds.

Judges came to that decision after nearly two weeks of back and forth and Djokovic, 34, has boarded a flight to Dubai and will not compete at the 2022 event.

He was left 'extremely disappointed' by the decision but has accepted that final ruling.

It continues to prove a hot topic across the sporting world and wider society, though, and United midfielder Matic has posted his thoughts on social media platform Instagram.

Uploading an image of Djokovic, the ex-Chelsea man tagged his compatriot and added a short caption.

It read: "Your glory and their shame will live forever."

Djokovic is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of his and any generation - and his 20 major titles include nine victories at the Australian Open and six triumphs at Wimbledon. He has also won the French Open and US Open two and three times respectively.

Australia continues to keep some of the strictest Covid-19 measures in place as countries across the globe attempt to deal with the devastating pandemic in differing ways. A full reasoning for Djokovic's deportation will be released in the coming days as Australian PM Scott Morrison welcomed the judgement to 'keep our borders strong and keep Australians safe'.
