Manchester United pair Alex Telles and Eric Bailly respond to selection blows and help loan clubs

With no matches taking place in England or Scotland this weekend following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, several of Manchester United's loanees did not play.

However, three loan players were in action - with Eric Bailly coming on as a substitute for Marseille, Alex Tellas featuring for Sevilla and youngster Matej Kovar starting in between the sticks for Sparta Prague.

Given that the Reds' scheduled match against Crystal Palace was postponed, it would not be surprising if manager Erik Ten Hag and his coaching staff spent some time watching the loan trio in action.

United's other loan players - Dean Henderson, Amad Diallo, Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez - had a weekend off, so they will all be keen to impress when they next feature for their respective club.

Alex Telles

Telles started on the bench for LaLiga outfit Sevilla in their entertaining 3-2 win at Espanyol on Saturday. The Brazilian left-back, who has made 50 appearances for United, replaced Marcos Acuna at half-time. Despite Martin Braithwaite pulling a goal back for the home side in the second period, Telles was able to help his side hold on for a much-needed victory.

Erik Lamela - who was sent off for Sevilla - opened the scoring for Julen Lopetegui's side in the first minute, with Jose Angel Carmona grabbing a brace for the away side. Despite being caught out of possession on a few occasions, Telles delivered a steady performance for Sevilla and was part of a winning team.

Eric Bailly

Like Telles, Bailly started on the bench on Saturday. The centre-back, on loan at Marseille, came on at half-time and replaced former Newcastle United man Chancel Mbemba. Igor Tudor's men went 1-0 down against Lille, but ex-United attacker Alexis Sanchez levelled proceedings before the break. The home side made it 2-1 in the second period, and held onto their lead.

Bailly made one clearance and two interceptions after coming on, also winning his only aerial dual of the match (Sofascore). With Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane performing well at the heart of defence in recent weeks, Bailly will have to seriously impress during his stint in Ligue 1 if he hopes to feature for the Reds next season.

Matej Kovar

The young goalkeeper joined the Czechia giants earlier this week on a season-long loan, and was thrust straight into the starting line-up for his team's away trip to FK Teplice on Saturday. However, the 22-year-old struggled on his debut.

He was booked for a foul during the match, before conceding twice as Sparta Prague let a two-goal lead slip in the Fortuna Liga. Kovar will be hoping for an improved performance next weekend.
