Manchester United near agreement with Sevilla for Anthony Martial loan transfer

Sevilla are close to reaching an agreement with Manchester United over the loan of Anthony Martial.

The Manchester Evening News revealed Sevilla had their loan bid for Martial rejected ahead of the January window, but an agreement is now believed to be close, which means Martial could join Sevilla on a six-month loan deal until the end of the season.

Sevilla are expected to cover Martial's wages for the loan, in a resolution to the stumbling block which saw an initial approach rejected earlier in the window.

Martial, 26, has only started four games for United this season and a loan move to Sevilla promises more minutes on the pitch.

The Frenchman informed Ralf Rangnick of his desire to leave the club in search of game time prior to the January transfer window.

Martial was subsequently left out of United's matchday squads following that discussion regarding his preference to leave and Rangnick claimed the player asked to be left out of his plans for United's 2-2 draw against Aston Villa earlier this month.

That matter was soon resolved and Martial returned to the matchday squad against Brentford.

Martial made an appearance from off the bench against West Ham on Saturday and he played a role in Marcus Rashford's goal.

Martial received a mixed reception from Old Trafford in that game.
