Charlie Wellens played his last game for Manchester United on Tuesday night ahead of the expiry of his contract.
The Manchester Evening News understands the decision has been made not to offer Wellens another deal and that he is currently looking at clubs ahead of a departure in the summer window when his United contract is due to expire.
Wellens, 20, trialled with Barnsley's Under-21s in January and his time in United's academy is now coming to an end.

The versatile youngster started against Blackpool's development squad on Tuesday as the U21s drew 1-1 at Bloomfield Road, although Wellens was forced off the pitch with an injury in the first half and replaced by Maxi Oyedele.
Blackpool took the lead in the game, but Victor Musa equalised with 20 minutes to play before United received a golden opportunity to win the friendly when Noam Emeran was brought down in the area in the 88th minute.
Emeran stepped up to the spot to take the penalty that he'd won himself, but the effort was fired well over the bar.
The clash was the final game of the season for the U21s after an underwhelming campaign in the Premier League 2.
