Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick asked about impact of Ramadan fasting on Paul Pogba

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick does not believe Paul Pogba's performances are being affected by fasting during Ramadan.

Pogba was substituted in the second-half of United's 3-2 win over Norwich with the scoreline 2-2 and the decision was cheered by a sizeable section of the crowd.

Several United supporters also booed Pogba and repeatedly chanted 'f--k off Pogba'. Pogba cupped his ear in front of the fans as he approached the tunnel at full-time.

Ramadan began on April 1 and ends on May 1 and adult Muslims abstain from eating or drinking from dawn until dusk. United kick-off against Liverpool at Anfield at 8pm on Tuesday night.

"As a player, as a professional, he is used to that, he knows how to handle that and deal with that," Rangnick said. "Actually, I haven't spoken to him about that, but I don't think this will affect his game and his performance.

"As far as I know, he's fasting, yes. But I haven't spoken about that with him in person. I've had quite a few other players, I know at least one player of Liverpool who's also doing the Ramadan: Ibrahima Konate. So he would have the same problem.

"I just felt it was the right time to bring on fresh legs and fresh players," Rangnick added of Pogba's withdrawal against Norwich. "It also had to do with the score at the time but I didn't think about Ramadan or something like that."

Pogba is expected to start again against Liverpool as Scott McTominay (foot) and Fred (hip flexor) are still unavailable through injury.
