Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reacts to Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes argument

Erik ten Hag says he has “no problem” with the intense exchange between Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes at full-time following Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

After the final whistle, the pair were seen gesticulating to one another despite United recording a valuable win, with Casemiro seemingly less than satisfied with a particular phase of play. It’s believed that the conversation centred around Fernandes losing the ball in the closing stages, which risked a Villa equaliser.

Following the impassioned debate, the pair embraced showing that there was no animosity in the discussion. The duo were seen having a similar chat after the 2-0 win over Newcastle in the League Cup final in February.

United boss Ten Hag has frequently called for his players to shoulder responsibility on the pitch this season. When asked whether he liked the interaction between Casemiro and de facto captain Fernandes, he told club media: “Yes of course. They have to communicate, they have to organise it and make sure that we get the win.

“And so when they are talking with each other, they are discussing or debating with each other, I don’t have a problem with that and I think it shows a willingness, ambition, from this team.”

Casemiro has been hailed by supporters for his attitude since his arrival, with many praising his leadership skills both on and off the ball. The Brazilian summer acquisition has been one of United’s best players this season with his break-up play being the bedrock of the team’s play under Ten Hag.

The five-times Champions League has racked up 44 appearances for United since his switch, scoring five times and assisting six more.
