Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag praises three Anthony Elanga qualities

Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United's Anthony Elanga has 'big potential' because of his work ethic and attitude.

Elanga, 20, was permanently promoted from the academy to the first-team by former interim manager Ralf Rangnick last season. The German was an admirer of the youngster from his first day in training and he handed him 14 Premier League starts.

The forward is seen as Rangnick's legacy, but with the coach no longer at the club, Elanga is currently fighting for his role in the first-team with Erik ten Hag in charge, which has seen him play just under 370 minutes in all competitions this term.

However, Elanga was used from the bench against Tottenham and Chelsea, and he was started against West Ham on Sunday. Although Elanga did not clearly impact the game against West Ham, Ten Hag said that he was happy with his performance.

"He's doing well and he's a young guy," explained Ten Hag to Viaplay Sweden. "Last year, he came in for a lot of games and this year, obviously, I would say it's normal to drop down in minutes, but you can see today he's quite mature.

"I was happy with his performance. His runs behind were good, he was composed on the ball, his pressing was good. His performance was good. You can see the power lacked a little bit, like when you don't have a run of games.

"I'm happy to work with him. He has big potential. I think he can have a really good position in world football. I am definitely sure [he has a bright future] because he is a great kid to work with. Always positive and I think his brightness, his positive attitude and by working hard, he has the capabilities so now we have to improve that."
