Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag makes admission about Anthony Martial

Erik ten Hag reiterated Manchester United are a better side with Anthony Martial despite his latest setback.

Martial was replaced by Wout Weghorst in the 57th minute of United's 1-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday and appeared to be unimpressed by Ten Hag's decision.

The 27-year-old striker spoke briefly with some teammates and staff before he headed down the tunnel. Martial eventually re-emerged to watch the remainder of United's victory.

Martial has scored three goals in 16 starts this season and only managed eight goals overall, having sustained hamstring, Achilles, back and muscular injuries.

The Frenchman has played in 27 of United's 59 games this term and the club have prioritised signing a striker in the summer.

Although Ten Hag was reluctant to dwell on Martial's future, he admitted his lack of availability has blighted his campaign.

"If you are not available, you can't score," Ten Hag stressed. "When he was available we played better, the team is winning games, he's also scoring goals but he has to be available."

Martial is contracted to United until next year and the club has the option of an additional year.

The Manchester Evening News revealed in February United are open to selling Martial amid interest in Tottenham talisman Harry Kane and Napoli goalscorer Victor Osimhen.
