Manchester United are not planning to recall Tahith Chong from his season-long loan with Birmingham City.
Chong, 22, has been sidelined since October due to a thigh injury that required surgery and he has been conducting his rehabilitation at United's Carrington training complex.
The Dutch winger was pictured in training on Tuesday doing ballwork but was working separately from the first-team group. Chong is believed to be around three weeks away from full training and his loan with Birmingham has not been terminated.
Chong is out of contract in June but United have the option of an additional year. United signed Chong from Feyenoord's academy in 2016 and he has played 16 times for the first-team.
His last appearance was against Linz in the Europa League round-of-16 second leg in August 2020 and Chong endured unsuccessful loans with Werder Bremen and Club Brugge last season.
When Chong returns to Birmingham he will be reunited with United centre-back Teden Mengi, who is also on loan at the Championship club.
Birmingham manager Lee Bowyer was asked about Chong's recovery from what is likely to be a four-month lay-off.
“It’s still going to be a little while,” Bowyer said. “When we do finally get him back, he’s still got to train with us for two weeks before we can start introducing him to games. He’s still a little way off yet.”
United loaned Amad, another left-footed right winger, to Rangers in the January transfer window and the club confirmed on Sunday Mason Greenwood would not train with, or play for, the first-team until further notice following his arrest for alleged assault and rape.
