Manchester United make decision on Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of FC Sheriff fixture

Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the Manchester United squad for their Europa League group stage game against FC Sheriff.

Ronaldo was dropped from the squad for the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday after he refused to come on against Tottenham last week and went down the Old Trafford tunnel in the 90th minute.

The 37-year-old accepted "the heat of the moment" got the best of him but stopped short of apologising for his behaviour.

"Yes, Cristiano will be in the squad tomorrow," Ten Hag said. "It's not difficult. But I think we said everything and we answered all the questions, he was out for one game and is back in the squad as usual.

"You don't have to [ask more questions] because we will not answer anymore, so all the questions, I think, are everything we explained and we have to focus on the game tomorrow. We have an important game because we want to be number one in the group.

"I don't have to do it anymore, It's done, he's back, focus on the game, that's important that Cristiano is involved in the squad tomorrow."

Ronaldo's reintegration into the United squad is unlikely to quell speculation over his future ahead of the January transfer window.

The Portuguese is out of contract at United at the end of the season and could seek a transfer in the New Year if he remains on the fringes of the first-team. Ronaldo has only started twice in the Premier League this term.

United have scored a meagre 16 goals in 11 league games and there is a growing clamour from the fanbase to invest in a goalscorer in the winter window but Ten Hag remained coy on any possible plans.

"In this moment, also last week, we focus on the games," Ten Hag added. "In the background, we always continue a process, working on the squad, so we want to have top sport culture and you see and examine how you can improve and that's what we will do."
