Manchester United make decision on Amad's future

Erik ten Hag has confirmed he sees Amad's future at Manchester United.

Amad, 20, has scored 13 goals on loan at Sunderland, who have qualified for the Championship play-offs against Luton Town.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last month Ten Hag is open to adding Amad to the first-team squad next season and United have made arrangements for the winger to attend the FA Cup final.

When asked if he saw Amad's future at United, Ten Hag replied: "Yes. Of course, we loan such players to make development and make progress to bring them back, that is the aim of the loan.

"So we are really strong with them, we mentor them, we follow them, we have communication over the season, especially (technical director) Darren Fletcher invests a lot in such processes, the aim is to bring them back but as a better player with experience."

United signed Amad from Atalanta for a fee rising to £37million on transfer deadline day in October 2020 but he has only appeared nine times for the club, scoring once against AC MIlan.

The Cote d'Ivoire international endured an unsuccessful loan spell at Rangers last season but he has been named Sunderland's young player of the season.

United host Wolves on Saturday in the first of three home fixtures from their remaining four in the Premier League run-in. Only Brighton, Newcastle, Leeds and Southampton have left Old Trafford without defeat in the league this term.

"We believe in the way we work and the way we play and the togetherness with the fans," Ten Hag said of the home record. "So I think a strong bond, there's a really good ambience at Old Trafford and it's difficult for opponents to arrive here and face us."
