Manchester United make Casemiro decision for Newcastle United Carabao Cup final

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that they will not appeal against the red card Casemiro received vs Crystal Palace, meaning the midfielder will be available for selection against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

Casemiro was shown a straight red card against Palace last week and picked up a three-game ban that applies across all domestic competitions. It meant that the Brazilian would be absent for both games against Leeds United this week and the following top-flight match against Leicester City - Man United's last domestic game before the League Cup final.

However, should the club have decided to contest the decision, the Premier League can increase the length of the ban by a further game should they deem the appeal to be 'frivolous'. This therefore meant that the 30-year-old would be at risk of being absent for the Wembley clash if proceedings for an appeal were started.

But speaking ahead of their game against Leeds, the Man United manager has now confirmed that they have not appealed the ban and therefore Casemiro will be available for the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.

"Consider yeah," Ten Hag said when asked about the club's decision not to appeal Casemiro's red card. "For me it wasn't the right decision but I don't think we have a chance in a legal process [of the appeal].

"I always have to play with the players who are available and we have a squad, we have many good players in our squad who are also not playing in the starting XI and I have to do it. After a game I can't say 'Casemiro is not there, Anthony Martial is not there,' we have to win.

"[Man] United are capable and we have to win the games no matter who is on the pitch."
