Manchester United 'looking into' Cristiano Ronaldo incident after defeat to Everton

Manchester United are looking into an incident involving Cristiano Ronaldo following Everton’s win at Goodison Park.

Ronaldo was videoed after Everton’s 1-0 Premier League victory appearing to knock an object, suggested to be a mobile phone, out of someone’s hand. The incident occurred as Ronaldo and his team-mates made their way back to their dressing room located in the car park of Everton's Park End stand.

The forward endured a difficult afternoon at Goodison after he was booked for belting the ball into the dugout after conceding a throw-in during the closing stages of the game. The 37-year-old was then jeered by Evertonians before he revealed a bloody shin after removing his shin pad and pulling down his sock following the full-time whistle.

Anthony Gordon scored the Blues' winner in the first-half, his shot deflecting home off Harry Maguire, while Jordan Pickford made crucial saves to deny both Marcus Rashford and Ronaldo. The win boosts Everton’s hopes of staying in the Premier League, while the defeat puts a further dent in United's chances of securing Champions League football next season.

Speaking after the game, United interim boss Ralf Rangnick said: "If you don't score a single goal in 95 minutes you have to be disappointed.

"We made a good start to the game, had control over the game in the first 25 minutes. We should have created more chances out of that domination in the first 25 minutes.

"Then we conceded a deflected shot, a goal after a deflected shot, and after that lost a little bit of our composure and stride.

"Second half we tried to add more creativity and verticality with our substitutions, but didn't always take the right decisions. In the end we couldn't score a single goal in 95 minutes."
