Wayne Rooney will remain in charge of Derby County going forward under their prospective new owner.
Last week, the Rams named software businessman Chris Kirchner as their preferred bidder with the club currently in administration. Derby are heading down to League One as things stand, sitting nine points from safety in the Championship relegation zone with five games to go.
Derby were deducted 21 points this season for accounting irregularities and for entering administration. But Manchester United hero Rooney has been credited for his side’s spirited effort in their battle against the drop.

The 36-year-old was in talks over the Everton job earlier this season before Frank Lampard’s appointment. And it seems he will be at Derby for the long haul after Kirchner indicated his intention to keep Rooney in the dugout, should his acquisition of the club be completed.
Commenting on Twitter, the American said that Rooney had told him he's staying. He added: "We're going to do this together. Excited to rebuild this with him."
Rooney has a year remaining on his contract at Derby having taken on the full-time role in January 2021, when he decided to hang his playing boots up for good. Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football earlier this month, the England legend explained his coaching aspirations and his commitment to Derby.
He said: “There are two clubs: Everton and Manchester United. I’m an Everton fan, I was at Man United for 13 years.
“I feel if I keep doing what I’m doing, keep learning, keep improving, those two clubs one day in the future I’d love to go and manage.” He added: “You’ve got to trust in yourself and believe in yourself.
“Of course, there will be temptation there. There might be offers that come in and you think, ‘I’m going to go for that’.
“But you need to be in the right place and I believe I’m in the right place. I’m developing as a manager, developing as a coach and I’m learning.”
