Manchester United legend picks winger club already had who is 'more exciting' than £85m Antony

Manchester United legend Andy Cole believes that Reds youngster Alejandro Garnacho is a 'more exciting' player than summer signing Antony.

Antony has made a decent start to life at Old Trafford following his arrival from Ajax, but the Brazilian attacker - who has registered five goals in 16 appearances for Erik ten Hag's side - has still come under criticism from some former players and pundits for a few underwhelming performances.

The 22-year-old has scored twice in his last two matches - against Everton in the FA Cup third round and Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. United spent £85.5m on Antony in the summer, with Ten Hag desperate to bring his former player to Old Trafford after working with him in the Netherlands.

While the Brazilian attacker is currently registering a goal nearly every three games, United legend Cole is 'more excited' by exciting youngster Garnacho, who has played 16 first-team matches.

Garnacho has scored two goals and made three assists in 14 appearances this term, which included the winning goal against Fulham before the World Cup break.

When asked who he believes has more potential between the United duo, Cole told Casinos En Ligne: "Garnacho excites me more to be honest. I think he’s busy and aggressive when he gets on the ball and he always wants to take people on. He looks to drop a shoulder, go past his defender and get crosses in or get his shots off.

"As a centre forward like me, when you’ve got a winger like that who wants to put the ball in that makes my mind up early doors because you know you’re in the game. I think he’s a really talented player and I’d love to see him get more action this season."

Both players were started in the EFL Cup win over the Addicks on Tuesday night, with Antony opening the scoring for Ten Hag's men in the cup triumph.
