Manchester United 'learn what they must do' to sign Christopher Nkunku and other rumours

Manchester United's reported quest to sign Christopher Nkunku hinges on whether they qualify for the Champions League, according to reports.

Tuesday saw their hopes of qualifying for Europe's elite competition take another blow after they were easily beaten by rivals Liverpool at Anfield. Prior to United's trip to Merseyside, defeats for Arsenal and Tottenham saw Ralf Rangnick's side move to within three points of the top four, but they were unable to bridge the gap.

Following the defeat, Rangnick revealed as many as 10 new faces could come through the door in the summer with Erik ten Hag seemingly set to become the next permanent manager at Old Trafford. One of the names repeatedly linked is RB Leipzig talisman Nkunku.

According to BILD, he is currently valued at €65m (£54m). The 24-year-old has set the Bundesliga and Europa League alight this season, scoring 30 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.

With Edinson Cavani out of contract in Manchester this summer and Anthony Martial's future still up in the air, United are expected to try and strengthen their forward department. Rangnick has already admitted that reinforcements are needed after naming a number of starting XIs this season that didn't include a recognised striker.

Meanwhile, Marca have been reporting on Martial's future in La Liga. The Spanish outlet says that a permanent switch to Sevilla is 'impossible' due to his wage demands.

Sevilla are aiming to trim their already 'immense' wage bill and with the Frenchman earning a reported €15m (£12.4m) at United, his time in Spain is expected to come to an end when his loan deal expires.
