Manchester United 'keen on summer transfer' for Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha

Manchester United are interested in a deal for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, reports suggest.

Sweeping changes to the first-team squad are expected at Old Trafford this summer as Ruben Amorim attempts to reshape things following a testing first few months at the helm as the managerial successor to Erik ten Hag.

Midfield seems likely to be a particular area of focus for United’s revamp, with Christian Eriksen expecting to depart at the end of his contract and uncertainty surrounding the futures of the likes of Casemiro, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo, who has been linked with a big-money move away from the club.

United continue to be linked with a whole host of potential new recruits in the middle of the park, including Jude Bellingham’s younger brother Jobe, currently starring in the Championship promotion race with Sunderland.

However, reports continue to claim that the Red Devils will need to sell players before they can buy, with Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, Eriksen, Mainoo, Antony and Marcus Rashford all tipped for potential permanent exits at the end of the season.

According to German publication Bild, United now want to sign Nmecha, the Dortmund midfielder who has three senior international caps for Germany.

It is reported they would be willing to offer €48million (£40.1m) for the 24-year-old, who has mostly impressed since moving to Signal Iduna Park from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg in 2023 but spent plenty of time on the sidelines injured having began his career with Manchester City.

Dortmund are said to be reluctant to sell Nmecha, who is under contract until 2028. However, they may be under significant pressure to offload key players in the summer if they do not qualify for next season’s Champions League, with Niko Kovac’s men currently sitting 11th in the Bundesliga and 10 points adrift of the top four with only eight matches left to play this term following back-to-back defeats by Augsburg and RB Leipzig.

However, BVB remain in the race to win this season’s Champions League after losing to Real Madrid in last year’s final at Wembley, with a huge showdown against Barcelona to come in the quarter-finals in April.

Nmecha will hope to return for Dortmund soon after being sidelined since late January with a knee ligament injury.
