Manchester United keen on Antonio Rudiger amid Harry Maguire doubts and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Antonio Rudiger as a free agent this summer amid doubts over Harry Maguire.

The German defender sees his contract at Chelsea expire at the end of the current season, and is yet to make a decision on his future as he instead focuses on the Blues’ push for silverware.

United though have been linked with a move for Rudiger since January, with the 28-year-old able to discuss potential moves with potential suitors ahead of the summer.

According to the Mirror, Ralf Rangnick is a big fan of the defender, and is keen to bring him to Old Trafford in order to solve some of the problems United have had at the back this season.

The Reds have conceded the joint-most amount of goals among the top-six, with doubts being raised about Maguire’s place in the side.

The United captain has received plenty of criticism this season for his performances, and with talks for a new deal for Rudiger at Stamford Bridge reportedly no nearer to being resolves, the Germany international could be utilised to offer competition.

United though will have to come up against some big competition though, with Real Madrid and PSG both said to have made their interest clear, and with Rudiger aware he could earn up to £400,000-a-week at either club.

Elsewhere, another defender is being linked with a move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting United have made initial enquiries about Manuel Akanji.

The Borussia Dortmund star has already been linked with a move to United, and has previously spoken about his dream of one day playing for the club.

And, according to the Daily Mail, United have now made their first move towards signing the 26-year-old.

The report suggests United are yet to make a formal offer, despite reports in Germany, but have been made aware of the player’s situation as his contract runs down at Dortmund.

Akanji has 16 months remaining on his deal with the German side, and is valued at around £26million.
