Manchester United issue Donny van de Beek injury update

Erik ten Hag admits things 'do not look good' for Donny van de Beek following his injury in Manchester United's win against Bournemouth.

Van de Beek was one of four changes to the United side for their 3-0 win on Tuesday night, but he was forced off the pitch just before half-time following a heavy challenge from Marcos Senesi.

The Bournemouth midfielder slipped as he challenged his opponent for the ball on the edge of the United box and followed through heavily on Van de Beek's leg.

The Dutchman was close to tears as he received treatment on the pitch, and was in huge discomfort as he hobbled off the pitch to be replaced by Alejandro Garnacho.

Speaking after the win, Ten Hag was asked for an update on his compatriot and admitted that the initial prognosis was not good.

"We need to wait 24 hours," he said. "But it is not looking very good."

United made it four wins in a row since they returned to action following the World Cup thanks to goals from Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford.

The victory saw United move level on points with Newcastle in fourth and close the gap to Man City to just one point ahead of their trip to Chelsea later this week.
