Manchester United 'interested' in highly-rated Man City 'target' and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are 'interested' in signing highly-rated Brentford right-back Aaron Hickey ahead of this summer's transfer window.

That is according to a report by Football Insider, who claim that the Reds have had scouts 'watching' the Scotland international this season. United, who will be looking to tighten their grip on a top-four berth when they face Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, could move for a new right-back this summer amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.

The duo have frequently been rotated by United manager Erik ten Hag since the World Cup, with the Dutchman seemingly undecided on who he considers his first-choice option. Dalot was outstanding prior to the showpiece event in Qatar, establishing himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet, whereas Wan-Bissaka has been the stronger of the two since the restart.

Hickey, 20, has been outstanding for Brentford this term, adapting to life in the Premier League with ease. He joined the Bees from Italian outfit Bologna for a reported fee of £14million last summer.

The Scotland international has made 20 appearances for Thomas Frank's side this term, all of which have come in the Premier League. He has also earned nine caps for Scotland at senior level and started the 2-0 win over Spain last month, in which United midfielder Scott McTominay scored both goals.

Manchester City have also been credited with interest in Hickey's signature.

Meanwhile, United are said to be 'ready' to pay the release clause in Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic's contract. That is according to a report by Croatian news outlet Jutarnji, who say United are 'ready to pay it'.

The Reds' goalkeeper situation is generating plenty of debate ahead of the summer transfer window, with a growing number of United supporters not convinced that David de Gea is the right man to continue as Ten Hag's first-choice option. Despite keeping 22 clean sheets this term, questions continue to be asked of his ability with the ball at his feet.

United and De Gea still hope to reach an agreement on a new contract, meaning it is possible he could continue as the club's No.1 next season. However, United are reportedly keen on drafting in Livakovic.

The Croatian, who has previously been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, made a name for himself during the World Cup in Qatar, helping Croatia reach the semi-finals for the second tournament in a row. Livakovic is out-of-contract at Zagreb in June 2024 and it is claimed that he has a release clause of just €10million.
