Manchester United are intensifying their search for a new full-back as Tyrell Malacia faces an extended period on the sidelines due to a knee injury. Malacia, who has been out of action for over a year, was not included in the squad that traveled to Los Angeles for pre-season training as he continues his rehabilitation at Carrington.
The club confirmed on their website that Malacia is still undergoing treatment under the guidance of the medical staff. The absence of Malacia, coupled with Luke Shaw's injury concerns, led United to secure Sergio Reguilón on a short-term deal last summer. In the absence of regular left-back options, emergency measures were taken with Victor Lindelöf and Sofyan Amrabat filling in.
With Shaw also unavailable for the U.S. tour following his participation in Euro 2024, United are left with young prospects Harry Amass and Sam Murray as the only recognized left-backs for upcoming matches against Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool. The club is actively exploring left-back options in the transfer market to avoid a recurrence of last season's defensive issues.
Additionally, United are open to offers for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has entered the final year of his contract. The team is considering replacements if a suitable deal can be reached. Several players, including Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, and others, will miss the U.S. tour due to extended breaks granted after international tournaments.
In other news, Rasmus Højlund has been assigned the prestigious No. 9 shirt at United, previously worn by the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku. The number became available after Anthony Martial's departure from the club at the end of last season.
