Manchester United injury update: Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, Toby Collyer latest news and return dates

Manchester United may not have taken three points at Old Trafford on Sunday, but there was one slight silver lining in the performance: Ruben Amorim’s squad suffered no new injuries over the ninety minutes.

Vitor Pereira’s Wolves made the short trip north to Old Trafford on Sunday, winning 1-0 to draw level on points with their hosts, who stay ahead in the table on goal difference. It was something of a rude awakening for United, who were brought back down to Earth after scoring three in extra-time on Thursday to knock Lyon out of the Europa League

Fitness issues have impacted United’s campaign this year, with six players currently absent from the squad.

Here is the latest Man United injury news...

Matthijs de Ligt

De Ligt’s return to Man United training may not be far away. Amorim said ahead of United’s Lyon tie that he was recovering well from his ankle problem, and that he could be ‘a few weeks’ from a return.

Amorim confirmed that he would likely come back this season, though, with a return likely to come in early May, meaning he will be able to contribute to United’s run in.

Predicted return: Sunday May 4 vs Brentford (A)

Ayden Heaven

Since signing from Arsenal in February, 18-year-old Ayden Heaven has impressed massively for United but had his time in the limelight cruelly cut short by a knee injury.

Once he had recovered from that, he then suffered a fresh knock in training, which Amorim played down as a “small spot.”

He is expected to return in the coming weeks.

Predicted return: Sunday May 4 vs Brentford (A)

Joshua Zirkzee

Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee is out for the season after suffering a hamstring injury against Newcastle last week.

Amorim said: “He’s not going to play more this season. Let’s prepare him for the next one. I think he’s improving in all aspects of the game, so it’s hard for any player to stop, but this is football and he has to be ready now to recover."

Predicted return: Autumn 2025

Toby Collyer

Young gun Collyer has also suffered a knock in training, but returned to light training ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against Lyon, but he is due to return before the end of the season.

The midfielder, still just 21, has made six Premier League appearances this season, and will hope to add to that number in United’s run in.

Predicted return: Sunday April 27 vs Bournemouth (A)

Amad Diallo

Amad returned to individual training last week after suffering an ankle ligament injury in February.

The assumption at the time had been that he would be out for the season, but Amorim has hinted he could return sooner.

He said: “I hope to have Amad [back] before [the end of the season], but we will see.”

Potential return: Sunday May 25 vs Aston Villa (H)

Jonny Evans

Veteran defender Jonny Evans made his return to the Man United squad for Sunday’s meeting with Wolves, having recovered from the back injury which had kept him sidelined since December.

He did not feature, as Ruben Amorim had said ahead of the match that he would not be ready, though he could be set to feature next time out as United travel to Bournemouth.

Predicted return: Sunday April 27 vs Bournemouth (A)

Lisandro Martinez

Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined for the foreseeable future after tearing his ACL in the early stages of this season. He is expected to miss a considerable chunk of the 2025-26 season.

Potential return: Winter 2025
