Manchester United 'identify' David de Gea replacement and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are hoping to sign Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny - according to reports.

Having appointed Erik ten Hag as manager, United sanctioned moves for five players during his first window with Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony joining the club on permanent deals. They were followed up by on-loan goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

However, while David de Gea was back to his best last season, the long-serving Spaniard is now into the final few months of his contract. United do hold a one-year option on his agreement, but the club have also been linked with freshening up their options by signing a new number one next summer.

But could former Arsenal goalkeeper Szczesny be that man? Calcio Mercato suggest the Poland international is on the radar for United having signed for Juventus from the Gunners five years ago.

In that time, he has played 190 games in all competitions. Szczesny only has 18 months before his deal expires while Robert Sanchez and Diogo Costa are named as potential alternatives.

Elsewhere, reports from SportBible are linking Chelsea with a sensational swoop for Marcus Rashford. Rashford, 25, has returned to form at Old Trafford this season and scored for England during their show-stopping victory over Iran at the World Cup on Monday afternoon - making it nine goals for club and country this campaign.

Similarly to De Gea, the Academy graduate is into the final months of his contract with an option to extend terms. Rashford should see that triggered after being linked with a switch away this summer - although supposed interest from Chelsea seems fanciful at this stage.

Rashford has scored nine goals with three assists in 20 matches for club and country this season.
