Manchester United hit with major Christian Eriksen injury blow

Manchester United have confirmed Christian Eriksen will be out of action for up to four months.

The Danish international was forced off during Friday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading with an ankle injury following a challenge from Andy Carroll, who was later sent off for two bookings.

Eriksen was withdrawn shortly after and was spotted leaving Old Trafford wearing a protective boot.

The 30-year-old has proven a successful signing for United, establishing an eye-catching partnership with fellow summer arrival Casemiro.

A free transfer from Brentford, Eriksen has scored twice while registering nine assists in 31 appearances for United.

He will now, however, miss a sizeable portion of the campaign.

“While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May,” read a statement on United’s website.

United have one foot in the Carabao Cup final ahead of Tuesday night’s semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest, who Erik ten Hag’s side beat 3-0 at the City Ground in the away leg.
