Manchester United have been hit with a fine by the FA for failing to control their players during their win over Brighton.
United returned to winning ways with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes helping them to a 2-0 victory over Graham Potter's side.
The hosts were charged by the FA for an incident that occurred shortly prior to Lewis Dunk being sent off.
Referee Peter Bankes originally gave Dunk a yellow card for pulling back Anthony Elanga around 10 minutes into the second-half after the Swede had stolen possession and looked to be through on goal.
Bankes had adjudged that Adam Webster would have got back to challenge Elanga, but United’s players were left furious with the decision as they surrounded the referee to try and convince him to brandish a red card.
After Fernandes was booked for his reaction, Bankes was then advised by VAR official Jarred Gillett to review the challenge on the pitchside monitor, with the referee then deciding to change his decision to a red card.
United though were still charged by the FA for their reaction and have been hit with a fine after admitting they failed to control their players.
A statement from the FA said: “Manchester United FC has been fined £20,000 for a breach of FA Rule E20.1 that took place at its Premier League game against Brighton & Hove Albion FC on Tuesday 15 February 2022.
“Manchester United FC admitted failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 53rd minute and accepted the standard penalty.”
United could face more punishment following their win over Leeds on Sunday, with Ralf Rangnick now facing a potential fine.
The interim manager was seen entering the pitch to intervene as both sets of players clashed late on, with his actions potentially landing him in hot water with the FA.
