Manchester United have new midfield theory after Donny van de Beek to Crystal Palace rumour

A number of Manchester United supporters have expressed their concerns about the club being left light on midfield options if Donny van de Beek seals a loan move to Crystal Palace.

According to The Athletic, Palace are currently 'exploring the possibility' of trying to sign the Dutchman on loan for the remainder of the season, as they look to offer the former Ajax man regular first-team football.

Van de Beek has struggled to nail down a place at Old Trafford since joining United from Ajax in September 2020, regularly being overlooked by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and current boss Ralf Rangnick.

His tally of just 50 appearances for the club — plus the fact that he has not started a single Premier League game this season — highlights why a loan spell would be highly beneficial for the central-midfielder.

But while United's supporters want to see Van de Beek sent out on loan to gain some much-needed game-time, they have reservations about whether or not it would be wise to offload him before the January transfer window closes, especially if Jesse Lingard leaves as well.

Lingard, who is out-of-contract in the summer, is a target for Newcastle on a loan before the transfer deadline.

In the event of both of them heading out on temporary loan deals ahead of next Monday evening's 11pm deadline, some United supporters have expressed their concerns. Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some of them have had to say.

As you can see from the messages displayed in the tweets above, there is a sense of fear that allowing Van de Beek to leave on loan, as well as Lingard, could leave United vulnerable in midfield.
