Manchester United have FA Youth Cup dilemma as five young players still in Spain with first team

Manchester United could be faced with a selection dilemma when they begin the defence of the FA Youth Cup against Crystal Palace this weekend.

Travis Binnion's side travels to Selhurst Park at 3pm on Sunday afternoon and could be without a host of players who helped them lift the trophy last season.

Kobbie Mainoo, Tyler Fredricson, Sam Murray, Max Oyedele and Dan Gore all featured in the win over Nottingham Forest back in May and are all still eligible to play in the competition this time around.

However, it remains to be seen whether they will actually be back in time for the match, given that they have all been included in Erik ten Hag's squad for the ongoing warm-weather training camp in Spain.

The youngsters could all be part of the side that faces Real Betis on Saturday evening, less than a day before the Youth Cup opener is set to begin in London.

A United source said there is still a chance the eligible youngsters could make their way back via Selhurst Park following the conclusion of the Real Betis match this weekend, with no plans yet in place to fly them back before the Betis match instead.

United ran out 3-1 winners over Nottingham Forest in the Youth Cup final thanks to goals from Rhys Bennett and a brace from Alejandro Garnacho.
