Manchester United's search for a Cristiano Ronaldo replacement has begun in earnest after the club announced that he would be leaving via mutual agreement.
Although his departure was expected following the Piers Morgan interview, it was still a shock to see the club opt to part ways with the 37-year-old before January. Following his exit, United's striker situation has now become desperate.
With only Anthony Martial able to fill in as a striker, the Reds are in need of a forward who can offer an option in attack. Even before Ronaldo's release, United were in a rut when it comes to goals.

Having scored only 20 so far this season, the Reds are in the midst of a goal drought offensively. While his reign will not be looked upon favourably, Ralf Rangnick did have a solution to United's problem.
Rangnick has long been a fan of RB Leipzig striker Christopher Nkunku. The 25-year-old was set to light up the World Cup this winter with France before an unfortunate training injury put paid to those aspirations.
Nevertheless, Nkunku's record in the Bundesliga speaks volumes. His 17 goals in 23 appearances have caught the eye of many onlookers and he is tipped for a big move sooner rather than later.
The problem when it comes to Nkunku though is two-fold. Firstly, he recently signed a new contract with the German side which expires in 2026.
This means United will have to pay a significant sum if they wish to secure his services. Secondly, reports this week suggested that Chelsea have wrapped up a deal for the striker and that he will be arriving in the summer.
However, it has not been unheard of that a club is pipped out of a deal at the last minute, take the Tyrell Malacia signing as most recent evidence of this. Plus, if there was ever a player to work hard to sign, it is Nkunku.
He would offer a different threat that United do not currently possess and his goal-scoring capabilities speak for themselves.
