Manchester United have already been told how to get the best out of Marcus Thuram

Manchester United need attacking reinforcements after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Many names have been touted such as Goncalo Ramos and Victor Osimhen, but they are both expensive and will most likely be unwilling to leave their clubs during the middle of the season due to Benfica's and Napoli's participation in both the Champions League and title races. So what are the other options?

One name that has been mentioned on multiple occasions is Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, son of France great Lillian and a recent finalist in the 2022 World Cup.

Thuram's contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to sign an extension meaning he could be available for a cut price fee in January. So if Erik ten Hag was to sanction a move for the 25-year-old, how do United go about getting the best out of him?

In the past, Thuram has been accused of not caring by Lothar Mattheus, who called his performances lacklustre in March. He stated: “He just doesn’t care… does not care! It’s the entire season already. I experienced Thuram last year: speed, enthusiasm, going for goal, effort – all gone."

However with the appointment of ex-Norwich manager Daniel Farke, the forward has seen a marked improvement. In 15 games in the Bundesliga he has scored 10 goals and registered three assists and that impressive form earned him a spot in France's World Cup squad.

Farke told Sportbild earlier in the season how he turned Thuram's fortunes around: “Marcus has his heart in the right place. He’s an emotional player who needs to feel comfortable and secure. In an atmosphere where players feel valued and accepted, performances are always better.”

With the January window right around the corner, fans are eager to see which direction Ten Hag decides to go down with his recruitment and if the links to the likes of Thuram come to fruition.
