Manchester United hatch transfer plan and it could hand Nottingham Forest a big boost

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, a move which could boost Nottingham Forest’s hopes of keeping Dean Henderson for longer.

The goalkeeper was one of the early summer arrivals at the City Ground, signing on a season-long loan from Old Trafford. It was originally said that the deal may have included an option to buy at the end of the season, but that is not the case.

Henderson came in to replace the outgoing Brice Samba, who left the club to join Lens in the summer window after his heroics in the play-offs to help Forest reach the Premier League. Henderson has made an instant impact, saving penalties in the 1-0 win over West Ham United and the 2-0 loss vs Tottenham Hotspur last month.

He is highly rated at Old Trafford and has often been tipped to be the successor to David de Gea when the Spaniard leaves the club. But it now seems that Erik ten Hag is hatching a different plan that may not involve Henderson.

According to the Mirror, Man United are one of the clubs interested in a potential January move for Atletico Madrid’s Oblak. The report adds that the Spanish giants are considering cashing in on the Slovenian in January in order to avoid losing him for nothing in next summer’s transfer window.

Atletico are said to be eyeing up a potential move for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez as a replacement should they cash in during the winter window. Should the moves go through, it therefore puts Forest in a strong position regarding Henderson.

The goalkeeper has been vocal in his desire to play first team football, with the arrival of Oblak at Old Trafford making that less likely. The arrival would also make Man United more inclined to sell the goalkeeper with a replacement for de Gea already lined up.

Forest could, therefore, offer a permanent solution to the club and player at the end of his loan deal. Henderson has come up through the youth teams at Old Trafford but has spent loan spells at Stockport, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United.
