Manchester United handed Diogo Dalot injury scare before Man City derby showdown

Manchester United have been handed an injury scare before their derby showdown vs Manchester City.

Starting in a changed United line-up against Carabao Cup opponents Charlton on Tuesday night, Diogo Dalot was one first-choice option selected by Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, with Pep Guardiola and his star-studded City ready to visit the same venue on Saturday lunchtime. But there are now question marks over Dalot for that game.

Having only just recovered from a hamstring problem which he sustained while on World Cup duty, the Portugal right-back went down with a knock in the first half after Antony had given United the lead. He was withdrawn by Ten Hag on 34 minutes with Aaron Wan-Bissaka coming on in his place.

Wan-Bissaka deputised for Dalot when he was sidelined after the World Cup and started three straight games for United in the Premier League during their ongoing winning run. Dating back to before the winter break, United put together seven successive victories before their date with League One opponents.

Fixtures continue to come thick and fast for United after the final whistle on Tuesday night. City are primed to visit Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime (12.30pm) for a mouth-watering Premier League showdown, with Crystal Palace and table-toppers Arsenal to follow between then and Sunday, January 22.

United were without suspended Bruno Fernandes for this game with Donny van de Beek (injury) and Jadon Sancho also not available for selection. In their absence, Ten Hag opted for a changed line-up that included Academy talent Kobbie Mainoo from the start alongside Alejandro Garnacho.

Uruguay international Facundo Pellistri and Zidane Iqbal were among those named on the bench. Wan-Bissaka was promptly summoned into the action, while Dalot was able to walk down the tunnel unaided.
