Manchester United 'handed boost' in £40m pursuit of Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves and more transfer rumours

Manchester United reportedly want to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves during the summer transfer window - and the Portugal international's current club could allow him to leave.

Recent reports claim United and Arsenal are each keen on acquiring the Portugal international. Barcelona and Real Madrid are, too, credited with an interest in Neves.

Suggestions of such interest come on the back of the Telegraph reporting that Wolves are readying themselves for life without the 26-year-old. The national newspaper claims they value the former Porto player at £40million, and that the West Midlands club would prefer to do business with an overseas team.

They would, though, reluctantly do a deal with a club competing in the Champions League regardless of whether they are in the Premier League due to the 'service he has given Wolves' during his six-year stay at Molineux.

The Telegraph also reports that Tottenham Hotspur would not match the wage demands David de Gea expects if the goalkeeper becomes a free agent this summer. Spurs are seeking a new number one, with Hugo Lloris expected to leave the north London club after the end of the season. The publication highlights the lack of options for De Gea at teams considered top European clubs after United opted against triggering the one-year contract in the former Spain international's contract.

A new deal is on the table at reduced wages. The expectation is that De Gea will remain at Old Trafford, despite claims the club looked during January at signing a new European goalkeeper on a free transfer before the player signed a contract extension. Instead, Jack Butland signed on loan from Crystal Palace for the remainder of the season as cover.
