Manchester United's former captain Gary Neville has publicly criticised Barcelona once again over their treatment of Frenkie de Jong.
It has been several weeks since United and Barcelona came to an agreement in principle for the transfer of De Jong. However, things have since proven far more complicated than simply signing some paperwork to get the deal over the line.
The Dutch midfielder is owed up to £17m in deferred wages after he agreed to accept a lower salary during the Covid-19 pandemic on the condition that it would be paid back at a later date. Barcelona are believed to want to move the midfielder away from the club to cut back their wage bill, but the issue of the money still owed to the player is holding the deal up.

Erik ten Hag has been pursuing his former Ajax charge since the start of the transfer window. However, time is slowly running out and Ten Hag will want any new signings in place as quickly as possible so they have a chance to integrate with the rest of the squad.
One person who has not been afraid to give his opinion during the ongoing saga is United's previous club captain, Gary Neville. The former Red has chastised the La Liga side over their handling of De Jong and has even called for the player to consider taking legal action against the club.
He has taken to social media yet again to take a thinly veiled swipe at the Catalan giants. He commented on a tweet that reported the move of Sevilla defender Jules Kounde to Barcelona, giving the defender a word of warning.
Neville said: "Does he know he doesn’t get paid his full wages if they want rid of him??"
