Manchester United get double injury boost ahead of Man City fixture

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial could return for Manchester United against City on Sunday.

Rashford has missed the last two games with a muscular injury and Martial has only played 45 minutes this season due to hamstring and Achilles injuries.

Martial and Rashford were absent from training sessions earlier in the international break but trained on Friday and are in contention to return to the matchday squad.

United captain Harry Maguire is out after sustaining an injury in England's 3-3 draw with Germany on Sunday. England captain Harry Kane said Maguire had played on injured.

United manager Erik ten Hag said: "The situation is that Harry Maguire is injured and I think for the rest we have some doubts.

"With Anthony Martial, he was training all week with the group so I'm really happy with that situation. He's performing really well in training, makes a good impression. Rashford returns to training, so we are also happy with that and for the rest maybe it's only long-term injuries like Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams, they are not avialable."

Ten Hag received the Premier League Manager of the Month award and Rashford claimed the playing equivalent to reflect United's domestic progress.

United have won their last four games in the league, having started the season with demoralising defeats to Brighton and Brentford. Ten Hag believes the manager and player accolades reflect progress made by the club.

"What we achieve as a group, we did it together and it tells us we are in the right direction," Ten Hag explained. "That short in the season, we know there is a lot of space for improvement, we have to improve.

"It's a positive but we are in the right direction and it tells us we also have to work really hard to get to the highest level."
