Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard weighing up other clubs after Newcastle transfer setback

Jesse Lingard is considering a move abroad in the summer as tensions mount between the player and Manchester United over his immediate future.

Sources privy to discussions over a possible loan move to Newcastle say Lingard, 29, has been 'treated badly' by United and the handling of Newcastle's interest has caused a strain in the relationship between the club and the player's camp, who are 'incensed' by United's behaviour.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick informed Lingard he was not in his plans for the remainder of the season and has given the forward approval to leave before Monday's transfer deadline.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last week Lingard's preference was to move to London and Tottenham and West Ham contacted United about Lingard's availability. United rebuffed both enquiries as they have no intention of letting Lingard move to a top four rival.

Lingard is prepared to join Newcastle, 19th in the Premier League, in an effort to force his way back into the England squad for their March internationals against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast and there are no issues over a loan fee or wages.

However, United have demanded an overall package of £15m for Lingard just to join Newcastle on loan as they are seeking a survival bonus. United believe Lingard could have a transformative effect at St James' Park.

Figures at United have suggested Lingard's value on an open market would be £50million, which has drawn scorn from sources close to the player who have suggested Lingard would not have gone more than two years without a Premier League start for United if his value was that high.

Burnley, bottom of the Premier League, have been suggested as an alternative for Lingard but it is unclear if they could finance a deal. Leicester, Everton and Aston Villa are also monitoring Lingard's situation.

A source says Lingard, who joined United aged seven, has been treated 'like a commercial property' by the club. United opened contract negotiations with Lingard earlier in the season even though his playing prospects had barely increased upon his return from a productive loan with West Ham.

Lingard would relish moving overseas when his United contract expires in June, with Juventus already sounded out as a possible destination. Juventus have become renowned for recruiting players who have run down their contracts since Andrea Pirlo arrived from AC Milan in 2011, a move that sparked their nine-year monopoly of Serie A.

Paul Pogba, Dani Alves, Fernando Llorente, Kingsley Coman, Sami Khedira, Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey also joined Juve on a free transfer.
