Manchester United flop Marcos Rojo made to regret chaotic Boca Juniors celebration

Manchester United flop Marcos Rojo showed both sides to his character - and game - during his latest appearance for Boca Juniors.

The 32-year-old has generally fared well since heading back to his native South America and it has been a strong start to the season. Rojo helped Boca to wins in four of their seven games before getting down to business against Arsenal de Sarandi and it might have been five from eight had things gone to plan. However, the home side ultimately had to settle for a share of the spoils after Rojo had a significant impact at both ends.

Captaining the side, Rojo was given an opportunity to score the winner when Boca were awarded a penalty kick in the 74th minute. That came when the score was 1-1.

Luis Vazquez and Sebastian Lomonaco traded goals before that decision. Up stepped the former United player and he showed icy calmness to put Boca ahead. Three points would have been good enough to move his side up to first place in Group B of the Argentine Primera Division.

Rojo celebrated with a vigour that merited the moment. However, it came with a sting in the tail for the defender as it was his mistake at the other end - 20 seconds later - that proved costly.

Boca produced some questionable defending in the build-up, but it was Rojo who allowed Cristian Colman to steal time and space in the area to turn home.

It was a snatch and grab moment which silenced the Boca crowd and Rojo himself after such a celebration. A draw has kept the home side in touching distance, but Estudiantes are top on goal difference.
