Manchester United flop Bebe scores Goal of the Season contender with stunning free-kick

Former Manchester United winger Bebe scored a stunning free-kick for Spanish outfit Rayo Vallecano in their Copa del Rey victory on Sunday afternoon.

Bebe, who made just seven appearances for the Reds between 2010 and 2014, registering two goals, signed for Vallecano in 2018 after spending time on loan with the LaLiga side. However, he suffered a serious knee injury during a match in October 2019 and was unable to play for around a year until he returned in October 2020.

The Portuguese attacker has been impressive on occasions so far this season, grabbing his first goal of the campaign in the 3-1 cup victory over CFJ Mollerussa.

The 32-year-old took responsibility for a free-kick more than 20 yards from goal and casually placed his effort into the top corner - giving the opposition goalkeeper absolutely no chance. Enric Puiggros Castello was unable to get anywhere near the inch-perfect set-piece and was surprised by the strike.

Bebe's superb strike was the first of the game as Andoni Iraola's side secured a comfortable victory in the Copa del Rey, with Diego Mendez Molero and Sergio Camello also getting on the scoresheet.

Nicolas Magno's scored a consolation goal for the home side, but it came in vain as the Primera Catalana (Group 2) side exited the competition.

Bebe was signed by legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as a 20-year-old in August 2010, with the Reds reportedly spending £7.4million on the player.

Speaking in 2018 about his move to Old Trafford, Bebe said: "When I signed, I didn't go to England but instead spent four days in Portugal. And I still thought they were kidding.

"I went to Carrington, I met all the players for the first time but I still thought that it was a lie! But the moment I spoke with Ferguson, that was when I thought, 'Finally I am here.'

"I started believing it in my head on that day, it took a lot to believe it!"

He added: "Every day I called my agent to ask him to get me out. It was a bad time. When you do not play, even if you are at a great club, then you are not happy, so why continue?"
