Manchester United begin the new Premier League season at home to Fulham.
Erik ten Hag oversaw a historically shambolic previous campaign, finishing eighth after months of dismal performances amid a plethora of injury problems and growing concerns over the manager’s ability to take the club forward.
However, beating Manchester City in the FA Cup Final proved pivotal and Ten Hag will be given another season in the role. He will need to get off to a good start to keep Sir Jim Ratcliffe & Co. on his side, and the opening run of fixtures are fairly kind to the club’s plight. Brighton, Liverpool, Southampton and Crystal Palace follow Fulham’s visit on the first Friday night of the season.
United simply must improve their results against the Premier League’s biggest sides. Their first real test comes Arne Slot’s Liverpool at the end of August, while the Manchester derbies against Man City come in December and April.
The traditional festive period will see United travel to Wolves on Boxing Day, with the season concluding at home to Aston Villa. No particular run of games looks daunting, bar perhaps across February and March with Tottenham and Everton away before Ipswich and Arsenal at home and a trip to Leicester.
