Manchester United figure slams Jack Butland for 'no ambition' Old Trafford spell & Rangers move

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker claims Jack Butland has "no ambition" after moving to Scottish side Rangers, following a spell at Old Trafford when he did not make an appearance.

Butland joined United on loan from Crystal Palace in the January transfer window. His move followed Martin Dubravka being recalled by parent club Newcastle United.

However, the 30-year-old stopper didn't see any action for United and was named on the bench on 20 occasions by Erik ten Hag in all competitions. Butland's last squad appearance was in the 2-1 FA Cup final loss at Wembley to Manchester City. He then became a free agent as his contract with the Selhurst Park side expired.

Butland has now signed a deal to sign with Scottish giants Rangers until the summer of 2027. However, former United defender Parker has slammed the decision and says the pressure is on the England international to perform at Ibrox.

Speaking to Spilxperten, Parker said: "If he can't perform at Rangers, then he has a serious problem. He had a good time at Stoke, but that's pretty much all he's achieved. He played neither at Manchester United nor Crystal Palace.

“I am sure he will play for Rangers because they have had their problems with goalkeepers. Two of them are old and the third doesn't seem to have the level.

"But it could be really difficult for him, after so many years on the bench. It's quite strange that many goalkeepers accept a role on the bench. They have no ambition and the same goes for Jack Butland.

"Now he has got there and the plan is for him to be the first goalkeeper. It is good for him that he has replaced Manchester United with Rangers, but there are going to be many difficult games for him.”
