Manchester United fans tell Louis van Gaal why he's wrong about Jurrien Timber transfer

It's no secret that Manchester United are interested in signing Jurrien Timber from Ajax this summer. However, while it was expected that the Dutch defender would be open to linking up with his former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, reports in the Netherlands say he is having second thoughts about the move.

Timber is part of the Netherlands national team set-up and will be hoping to go to the World Cup in Qatar later this year. But manager Louis van Gaal this week warned him that a move could put his place in the squad at risk.

He told the media ahead of the Netherlands clash with Wales: "I think a player with his qualities can play in the Premier League. That’s not a problem. But if he has to make this step now... that's another question. It is not so wise I think [to join United]. He has to play."

The fate of Donny van der Beek's international career will also be on Timber's mind. Van de Beek joined United in 2020 but hardly played and his international prospects suffered as a result. The hope among United fans is that Ten Hag will be able to convince Timber that the same fate won't befall him.

United fans have been discussing the transfer on social media, with some sure that Timber would get the starts he needs to keep his place in Van Gaal's squad for Qatar.
