Manchester United fans react predictably after Cody Gakpo scores screamer for Netherlands vs Ecuador

Manchester United fans have sent a transfer plea to their club after Cody Gakpo scored his second World Cup goal for the Netherlands during their game against Ecuador.

Gakpo was on United's radar during the summer transfer window, yet a deal failed to materialise ahead of the September 1 deadline as United signed Antony from Ajax instead.

United ended up spending £225million on six new signings during the window. Ten Hag continues to be linked with a move for the 23-year-old yet a move for an out-and-out striker is set to be prioritised in the January transfer window.

As domestic football pauses for the World Cup, it gives the top clubs around Europe the perfect chance to keep an eye out for anybody who can impress during their time in Qatar. Gakpo has done just that, as he followed up his glancing header against Senegal with a superb strike inside six minutes against Ecuador.

The PSV man shifted the ball onto his weaker left foot, before rifling a searing drive into the top corner from 18 yards out. Fans would have been questioning whether Gakpo really was right-footed following a shot of that quality.

It did not take long from the ball hitting the back of the net, before Untied fans were once again pleading with their club to do whatever it takes to sign Gakpo, as they took to social media to beg their side to get a deal for the Dutch star over the line.
