Manchester United fans love Steven Gerrard's reaction after Aston Villa goal disallowed by VAR

Aston Villa were unfortunate to see a goal disallowed against Manchester United, but that hasn't stopped supporters from revelling in Steven Gerrard's disappointment.

United have begun their quest to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2016 and took the lead after just seven minutes against Villa when Scott McTominay nodded in Fred's excellent cross.

However, that early goal didn't translate into a good display from Ralf Rangnick's side as Villa went on to dominate the first-half, hitting the crossbar and forcing David de Gea into a string of saves.

The visitors continued to control the game in the second-half and looked like they had grabbed a deserved equaliser less than five minutes in when Danny Ings tapped in Ezri Konsa's header across goal following more hapless United defending at a set-piece.

However, a lengthy VAR consultation would follow resulting in the referee eventually disallowing the goal for a Konsa block on Edinson Cavani in the build-up, though it looked as though a potential offside was being debated by the VAR officials as the goal was replayed plenty of times.

After several minutes, the man in the middle informed both captains about the decision and confirmed the goal would not stand.

That brought loud cheers from the Old Trafford faithful and fans on social media particularly enjoyed Villa boss Gerrard's less-than-thrilled reaction to the decision.

Villa weren't disheartened and had the ball in the net once again a few moments later with Ollie Watkins turning in Ings' cutback, however, the striker was a fraction offside as he broke through the United defence.

The winner of the match will face Middlesbrough in the fourth round.
