Manchester United fans hail Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp for classy Sir Alex Ferguson gesture

Manchester United fans have praised Jurgen Klopp for the classy gesture he made towards Sir Alex Ferguson at the LMA awards on Tuesday night.

Liverpool manager Klopp was the big winner at the awards ceremony, where he was named League Managers' Association Manager of the Year. The German coach also received the LMA's Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy, which is voted for by the full membership of managers across all the divisions.

Ferguson joked 'it was agony' as he presented Klopp with the award on stage, a reference to his career-long battle with the Merseyside club during his time at Old Trafford. After handing the award to Klopp on stage, Ferguson looked to make a quick exit so that the Liverpool manager could get his picture taken alongside England boss Gareth Southgate.

However, Klopp insisted that he shared the precious moment with the legendary United manager by pulling him back into the shot and insisting he was part of the celebratory images.

"It is a great honour and it was an insane season," Klopp said. "The last matchday when only two games were meaningless and in the rest, we all played for absolutely everything.

"It was not the best outcome for us, but we are already over it.

"When you win a prize like this you are either a genius or you have the best coaching staff in the world - and I am here with all of my coaching staff, they know how much I appreciate them."
