Roy Keane’s introduction in Manchester United’s ‘Legends of the North’ charity clash with Liverpool was greeted with loud boos from home supporters.
The United icon was announced as a visiting squad member shortly before the game, which ended 2-1 to the hosts following their 3-1 win at Old Trafford in May. He replaced Darron Gibson on 75 minutes to a chorus of jeers.
The away side had taken the lead when Dimitar Berbatov found the top corner on seven minutes. But second-half strikes from Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama Pongolle made it back-to-back defeats against Liverpool for the United Legends.

A whole host of former stars were on show, including Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia and Jaap Stam. Liverpool, meanwhile, fielded the likes of Xabi Alonso, Martin Skrtel and Robbie Keane.
However, the murmurings among United fans who were following the coverage were about when they would see Keane back in his boots. They got their wish with 15 minutes to play and although the 51-year-old could not change the course of the match, he seemed to love being jeered.
His entry prompted many on Twitter to react to his cameo. Some laughed along at the boos while others were reminiscing of former glory years when Keane was leading the first team to silverware.
