A large number of Manchester United supporters reacted angrily to the news that Harry Maguire will continue in his role as club captain.
Manager Erik ten Hag, who will take charge of United for the first time when they face Liverpool in their first pre-season friendly of the summer on Tuesday, made the announcement during his pre-match press conference in Bangkok on Monday. The England centre-back, who reported back for pre-season training last week, was under increasing pressure to give up the armband this term following a difficult 2021/22 campaign.
However, Ten Hag said: "Harry Maguire is the captain. I have to get to know all the players, but he's an established captain and he's achieved a lot of success. I don't see this as an issue."

Maguire, like many of his team-mates, experienced a campaign to forget last term, producing countless poor performances. And that is why the supporters were desperate to see a changing of the guard ahead of the start of the new campaign.
