Manchester United fans fume at Alex Telles and Raphael Varane after Arsenal goal

Manchester United fans have expressed their frustrations with Raphael Varane and Alex Telles after Arsenal took an early lead in their massive match.

United have travelled to North London in desperate need of a big response following Tuesday's 4-0 shellacking at the hands of Liverpool as well as three points in order to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Despite coming in for a hail of criticism in the week and now having a new manager in Erik ten Hag to impress, United continued where they left off at Anfield.

It took Arsenal a mere two minutes to take the lead through left-back Nuno Tavares and it all stemmed from some terrible defending by both Telles and Varane. The defensive duo both made half-hazard attempts at clearing a cross into the box and completely missed the ball, which landed at Bukayo Saka's feet.

The England international then had all the time in the world to cut inside and hit a shot goalwards that David de Gea did excellently well to save. However, due to the lofted nature of the shot, there wasn't enough power on it for the goalkeeper to push the ball out of danger and instead, it went straight into the path of Tavares who bundled it home.

Going behind so early in such an important game has understandably not gone down well amongst supporters. If United can claw it back and get the win they would draw level on points with the Gunners - as well as Tottenham, for the time being at least - but a defeat would see them fall six points behind in the race for fourth.

With the stakes so high mistakes of such magnitude are absolutely calamitous and fans have made their anger known to both Varane and Telles.
