Manchester United fans divided on Scott McTominay role in Atletico Madrid scuffle

Manchester United supporters have offered up mixed reaction to Scott McTominay charging into Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak and prompting a mass scuffle involving both sets of players.

Having returned to the starting XI after missing out through injury in the last pre-season friendly, McTominay took back his place in the engine room - alongside Fred - as United continued their preparations in the first part of their weekend double header. United also take on Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford following this showdown in Oslo.

It was goalless at half-time despite United starting quickly and creating several opportunities. However, it was the Scotland player who took centre stage - prompting mixed reaction on social media.

An explosive counter attack resulted in Marcus Rashford forcing Oblak into a save inside the opening two minutes as United signalled their intent from the outset, while Anthony Martial went close from a similar move and, maybe, ought to have done better with his attempt.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof glanced wide from corners, while one delightful pass from Tyrell Malacia almost sent Martial through. It was a vibrant start from United indeed, but the deadlock was not broken in the opening 45 minutes and McTominay found himself booked for a clumsy challenge.

He charged into Oblak at a corner and was cautioned by the referee. Although some backed the United star up for giving Atletico a taste of their own medicine, others questioned his decision making and some, also, debated the academy graduate's decision to play with his collar up, a la Eric Cantona.
