Manchester United fans were left confused by Ralf Rangnick's formation against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
With key players such as Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo unavailable for the Manchester derby, changes from Rangnick were inevitable for United's visit to the Etihad, however, when the team news arrived, the selection caught a few by surprise. With no recognised centre-forward in the line-up, it seemed like United would play with a false nine.
United actually played with a 4-2-2-2 instead with Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes playing as strikers. The system has been questioned by supporters and, while United looked bright in phases, it ultimately failed to inspire United to victory.

United fans took to social media to question the formation and some were left puzzled by the system at the start of the game.
