Manchester United supporters have been sending their well wishes to Jesse Lingard after the club confirmed he will be leaving this summer.
The midfielder’s contract expires this month after 232 first team games, in which time he has lifted the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup. Lingard has been at United for more than 20 years having broken through the academy ranks in 2012.
Loan spells at Leicester, Birmingham, Brighton and Derby unfolded before he became a household name with his winning extra-time goal in United’s 2-1 FA Cup final win over Crystal Palace in 2016.

Lingard would go on to have a number of successful seasons in the first team but struggled to lock down a regular spot during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign. After a successful loan spell at West Ham in the 2020/21 season, the 29-year-old decided to fight for his place again at Old Trafford.
A change of the guard did not alter the course of his final season at United, Ralf Rangnick restricting him to just 11 games after November, only three of which he started. He was denied an Old Trafford farewell appearance against Brentford before not featuring in the final day loss at Crystal Palace.
United supporters will not be surprised to hear that Lingard’s departure has been confirmed by their club, with the player being linked with a switch back to West Ham. Large numbers of fans took to Twitter to send Lingard their best wishes and thank him for his service.
