Manchester United fan group make Liverpool FC game demand amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe interest

Manchester United fan group The 1958 have sent a rallying cry amid interest in buying the club from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

A report this week claimed that the Glazer family were considering selling a 'minority stake' in the club. When posed the question by The Times as to whether United was a club Ratcliffe would like to purchase, a spokesperson for the Ineos owner replied: "If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership.

"This is not about the money that has been spent or not spent. Jim is looking at what can be done now and, knowing how important the club is to the city, it feels like the time is right for a reset."

United fans have welcomed the news of Ratcliffe's interest with the boyhood United fan also owning French Ligue 1 side Nice and the British cycling team Ineos Grenadiers. However, The 1958, who organised a march ahead of United's opening game of the season against Brighton, have warned supporters to not get complacent with their stance.

In a tweet, they wrote: "No complacency. This is not over. It’s time to push hard to the finish line. Monday we expect large numbers.

"This is a chance for every United fan to be on the right side of history. Do not let this pass. Time to unite and put all differences aside. Let's get our club back."

The #EmptyOldTrafford movement has been trending on social media since United's defeat to Brentford.
